Global Petroleum Show Unites oil and gas industry for a stronger future

The 51st running of North America’s Leading Energy Event, the Global Petroleum Show (GPS) highlighted new technologies, innovation and optimism for a strong Canadian energy sector. Over 53,000 members of government, CEOs, decision makers and visitors came together from around the globe to send one message: Alberta is open for business. Canada is open for business.

The industry is changing. Over the years GPS has transformed into a bigger and better platform for energy executives to host meetings, make company announcements and engage in dialogue that reflects the state of the industry. This year’s Show featured new additions including the Global Meetings Program, Pipeline Alley, the Passport Program in the Outdoor Zone and two separate conferences that each brought an incredible lineup of speakers.

Memorable attendees including Alberta Premier Hon. Jason Kenney, Saskatchewan Premier Hon. Scott Moe, Tim Gould, Head of Division, Energy Supply and Investment Outlooks at the International Energy Agency, and entrepreneur, philanthropist and former CBC Dragon W. Brett Wilson delivered keynote speeches and participated in panels during the new programming of the Strategic Conference. Throughout this three-day conference, speakers discussed topics including global and regional perspectives across the oil and gas value chain, energy transition, energy policies, digitalization and new business models.

The GPS Technical Conference brought over 120 industry experts from around the world to present and discuss the latest technologies, processes and innovations.

To bring the City of Calgary closer to the importance of Canadian energy in the global market, GPS became the venue of Canada’s Largest Pro Oil and Gas Rally in history. The impressive speakers from all levels of government from across the country united with the message “Alberta is open for business,” and it spoke volumes to the over 4,000 guests in attendance.

Alberta Premier Hon. Jason Kenney delivered a keynote address during the Opening Plenary Session of the Strategic Conference.

Canada Action and other industry associations hosted Canada’s Largest Pro Oil and Gas Rally at the Global Petroleum Show on June 11, 2019. Over 4,000 local and international energy advocates showed their support for TMX and a strong Canadian energy sector.

Entrepreneur, philanthropist and former CBC Dragon W. Brett Wilson delivered a keynote speech sharing his stories about his success, mistakes, and how to succeed in business without losing principals.

Local top-performing students between the ages of 12-17, interested in STEM, participated in a one-of-a-kind afternoon program where they met industry experts to learn how a future career in the industry can contribute to Canada’s future global leadership position.

Tim Gould, Head of Division, Energy Supply and Investment Outlooks for the International Energy Agency gave an in-depth presentation on global investments in the energy sector and what to expect for Canadian energy.

Trevor Pelletier from Siksika performed the traditional Chicken Dance at the GPS Awards as part of the Canadian-themed evening celebrating innovation and leadership in the oil and gas industry.

In a more casual setting, over 500 guests joined us for a private networking opportunity and soundcheck prior to the GPS X COWBOYS After Party and Concert featuring 90’s hit sensation Vanilla Ice.

Although it’s important to look forward, we didn’t hesitate to celebrate the leaders and innovators in the oil and gas industry at the GPS Awards. Eleven awards were given to companies and individuals who blew us away in each category: Collaborative Trendsetter, Community Engagement, Digital Innovator, Emerging Clean Technologies, Emerging Leader, Health & Safety, Indigenous Excellence, Innovation in Process Controls, Innovation in Equipment, Suzanne West Environmental Excellence, and Industry Trailblazer. Hosted by Cliff Prang, the Canadian-themed evening was filled with excitement, laughter and performances by Trevor Pelletier from Siksika, and Spiritual Leader Hal Eagletail and his daughter Cherokee Eagletail of Tsuu T’ina.

International perspective on energy business opportunities and challenges were welcomed at the popular Global Market Seminar Series. This year we featured over 65 speakers from 30 countries including Algeria, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Israel, Ukraine, Argentina, Colombia and Pakistan!

"I came here to network and this is the place to do it. There are some former students here such as Gary Mar [President & CEO of PSAC] and Brett Wilson [Entrepreneur, Philanthropist and former CBC Dragon] that were featured speakers. That’s Calgary - small town networking global opportunity. That’s what the Global Petroleum Show does."

-Dr. Bob Schulz Professor at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary

"I am an owner and found the Show to be a great platform to promote our company. I found the Show allowed me to reach out to a large audience in a short period of time. I was able to connect with individuals that were very difficult to get in front of."

"The GPS is here to educate people and the industry of the new services and technology that is being developed to help the oil and gas industry and the environment.
