FROM OUR SPEAKERS - WARREN CHUNG

The GPS Technical Conference is accepting abstracts until Friday, December 13. As the abstracts are coming in, we connected with 2019 Technical Speaker Warren Chung to talk about his experience in 2019.

Chung’s presentation was titled Utilizing a Novel Petroleum Residua Processing Technology for Partial Upgrading.

GPS: What was your experience working with dmg events?

WC: My experiences with dmg events have been very positive. The GPS team is well organized and professional.

GPS: How did you find out about the GPS Technical Conference?

WC:  I have been attending the GPS exhibition since 2012 and first learned about the Technical Conference from the program guides. However, I never thought about submitting an abstract until a colleague suggested that attendees would be interested in learning about the exciting developments at Well Resources Inc.

GPS: Did you have anyone reach out to you regarding your presentation?

WC: Yes! Presenting at the GPS Technical Conference allowed us to reach an extended audience which led to the generation new leads and opportunities for implementing our SELEX-Asp technology worldwide. While our presentation focused on the added benefits of our technology in Alberta, it was clear that the audience members understood it could be beneficially utilized in other jurisdictions as well.

GPS:  Do you have any updates regarding your presentation since you’ve presented?

WC: Our presentation focused on a low energy intensity technology that cleanly separates the most carbon intensive portion from petroleum, turning feedstock into clean oil product (that can be processed more efficiently and transported by pipeline using less diluent) while leaving a solid carbon by-product. Since delivering the presentation, we are happy to announce that the Canadian patent examiner has allowed us a new patent for utilizing the solid carbon by-product for environmental remediation, such as water and soil decontamination, without the need for combustion. The patent was able to undergo an expedited review due to the environmental protection aspect of our invention. By turning a by-product into a useful value-added material, this allows our commercial users to deepen their commitments to clean energy and the environment.

WC: The GPS Technical Conference is an excellent way to gain exposure for a project or initiative you are working on, and also a great opportunity to learn about the other exciting developments happening within our industry.
