MEET THE COMMITTEE - SCOTT KWAS

As the GPS Technical Conference Call for Abstracts is in full swing, we caught up with Technical Committee members to discuss what abstract they're reviewing, why they chose to work in this industry and what they like to do in their off time.

This week, we connected with Scott Kwas, Technical Team Lead, Canada at Shell Lubricants.

GPS: What is your specialty? What abstracts will you be reviewing?

SK: I will be reviewing abstracts focused on: Innovation and sustainability. Specifically: Alternative Energy, Drilling & Completion, Environmental Management, Health & Safety, People & Talent, and Pipeline & Processing Facilities.

GPS: What trends are you noticing in global energy?

SK: There is an increased focus in the industry on increasing awareness on sustainability and alternative energies, along with this how they can be leveraged to lowers a company’s carbon footprint.  The approach is focused on collaboration; working with partners, customers, suppliers and government to successfully navigate a successful journey and through innovation where the evolution of new technologies will play a key role.

GPS: What attracted you to working in energy?

SK: The energy sector is a key industry in Alberta and Canada’s history. The industry has always fascinated me with the process and technologies we leveraged to extract crude from the ground and refine it into finished goods such as fuels, chemicals, waxes and plastics.

GPS: What do you like to do in your free time?

SK: My priorities always turn to the family when there is free time; such activities as a family hike in Kananaskis, fishing, watching my son play baseball or going to a car show to see the 1941 Chevy pick up truck I restored with my father.
